Dog Licensing Fees

The City Council voted to crack down on dog owners who have failed to get a license for their animals. It is estimated that only about a third - approx. 120,000 - of the city's 350,000 dogs are licensed. Dog licenses cost $15 a year.

All dogs over 4 months must be spayed or neutered (special costly permits are needed to license and keep intact dogs) and be up-to-date on their rabies vaccinations. Low income senior citizens (age 62 and older) and low income disabled residents qualify for one free dog license a year. Licensing fees support the city's spay and neuter programs. The advantages of licensing your dog is a better chance of finding a pet that gets lost. Each license comes with a unique number that would help reunite a lost dog with its owner.

For questions, call Animal Services licensing section at 213-482-9550, between the hours of 8:00am- 5:00pm M-F or online at: http:// www.laanimalservices.com/serv_animallicense.htm

CRA and City OK new loan for Midtown Crossing project

President Mary Ann Yurkonis, Sue Beidleman and John Mimms attended a Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) meeting last month after which the Los Angeles City Council approved a plan for completing the long-stalled Midtown Crossing shopping center at Pico and San Vicente. On a 9-2 vote, the council agreed to provide real estate developer CIM Group with a new $19.3-million loan to finish the shopping center, which would include a Lowe’s home improvement center.

Under the terms of the deal, the loan would operate more like a grant. CIM Group would be able to pay most, and possibly all, of the money back using sales, business and utility tax revenue generated by the project -- money that normally goes into the city’s budget.

CIM Group said in a statement that the vote would allow construction to begin immediately at Midtown Crossing. Councilman Herb Wesson praised the project, saying Midtown Crossing would spark other development activity in his district.
